Started in July 2008 as a mobile service for the delivery of video’s, DVD’s and home entertainment. Such was the success of the business, that in November 2008 a shopfront was opened at 25 Quail Street, St Helens. Owner, Noelene Wright said that after constantly having to travel to Launceston to buy movies, she recognised a need for a complete one stop entertainment shop where locals could have access to video hire & sales, game hire & sales and consoles at the same prices as in the city.

Hurdles faced were how to find out information regarding everything, from wages, insurances, business plans and bookkeeping. “The BEC has been just brilliant, they have pointed me in the right direction and have been a constant source of reference on an ongoing basis”, she said

Future plans for the business is to extend the coverage throughout the Break O’Day area & into Bicheno. So come in and meet Noelene, she loves meeting the locals and one last piece of advice, “If your going into business then choose something you are passionate about, that way its not a chore, its a pleasure – Oh, and go along to the BEC, you won’t regret it!!”

Opened in November 2008 at 2/34 Quail Street St Helens. Louisa Good decided she wanted customers to feel good about themselves, on the inside and out.

Starting with massage about eight years ago she went on to do a traineeship to expand her skills in waxing, manicures and pedicures, facials and spray tans. Since opening Ambient Beauty now boasts two trainees. Sally Lehner is a full time employee completing Certificate III in Beauty Therapy and Rebecca Carr is a school based apprentice. “It’s really about personal satisfaction for me. It feels really good to provide a serene environment for my customers and to meet their needs individually.”

The hurdles she faced were getting time to do bookwork and trying to get a good balance between work and family. “I probably wouldn’t be in business if it weren’t for the BEC, they pointed me in the right direction with the NEIS program, helped create the right links with financials, bookkeeping and advertising. They are a constant source of support for me.”
“The one piece of advice I have for anyone wanting to start a business is to have a business plan and to make sure you have a passion for what you are doing, because it really becomes your life.”

To compliment Ambient Beauty, Mandy O’Byrne, hairdresser, has joined the team to provide full hairdressing services.
